A one day, 6 hour course, that will help you collaborate with prescribers and benefit your clients.

Learn and understand medications used in the treatment of:

Depression ~ Bipolar Disorder ~ Anxiety Disorders ~ Psychosis ~ We will also briefly cover psychotropic use with children, during pregnancy and the treatment of severe nightmares.

Learning Goals and Objectives:

  • Learn a basic understanding of psychiatric medications, how they work, and how you can give the prescriber important feedback that will support your client in treatment.
  • Learn how prescribers choose medications based on symptom presentation, how these medications work, and get an overview of the latest research regarding these medications.
  • Learn Neuro-Anatomy and Physiology as it applies to psychopharmacology.
  • Understand the current usage of psychotropic layering that many prescribers are utilizing with patients today.
  • Understand the psychotropic medications your clients are being prescribed.
  • Understand the side effects of psychotropic medications.
  • Learn common treatment errors to avoid and how to interact with prescribers in a comfortable and knowledgeable way.

About Dr. Thacker, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist

Dr. Thacker has been in private practice for over 25 years and in the mental health field for 35 years. He currently works at Tehama County Health Services in Red Bluff, California, providing mental health services in the Medical Clinic working closely with prescribers and maintains a private practice in Redding.  He frequently collaborates with prescribers and is often consulted by prescribers for medication recommendations. Dr. Thacker first received experience with medication support for his clients while working with Veterans in the 1980s.  He has extensive knowledge and graduate level education in psychopharmacology and a passion for assisting clients in understanding their medications and getting the best fit when medications are needed.

Psychologists:  This course has been submitted for MCEP continuing education for Psychologists.  DaLene Forester, PhD, LMFT is approved by the MCEP Accrediting Agency to offer mandatory continuing education for psychologists and maintains sole responsibility for this program.  Provider # FOR025.

Attendance at the entire program is required for CE Credit. No partial Credit will be awarded.
